25 x 75 mm
1mm thick
Package Size: 144
High-Quality water-white Soda Lime glass
Low Iron
Low Fluorescence
These water white, corrosive resistant glass slides are the highest quality manufactured. Finished slides are sealed with a desiccant in an air-tight package, keeping the slides dry during shipping and storage. This sealed environment protects against surface deterioration, spotting and sticking. All slides are precleaned and ready for use.
Soda Lime glass has excellent transmittance in the 500 to 2300 nm range
File:Soda-lime glass, typical transmission spectrum (2 mm thickness).svg
For UV microscopy work, SPI Supplies Quartz Slides are better suited for wavelengths in these ranges.
All glass microscope slides, with time, can develop a condition called glass corrosion, that is, the surfaces start to take on a slightly discolored and frosted appearance. So far as we know, there is nothing in the way of storage conditions that can forestall that phenomenon. We suggest not purchasing slides in quantities that are larger than what you are likely to use in one year's time.
Glass slides are at times known to "stick together" and seem to pose challenging problems in terms of separating them. Again, this is a generic problem with all glass microscope slides and we offer some suggestions for their separation.
The clump of slides sticking together should be dipped in liquid nitrogen. Once cold they tend to pull apart without difficulty. If slides are washed and then stacked while still wet, this liquid nitrogen treatment solves the problem.
Another common method is to warm the stacked clump of slides on a hot plate.

Now some users of slides say this is all a lot more difficult than just using the edge of a razor blade or scalpel blade to separate them. We do not recommend that method because of the possibility of breaking off a sharp metallic edge of the blade. But if you do decide this is the method for you, be sure to wear appropriate eye protection.
